What is a pop-up community wellbeing cafe?

The ANZAC Legacy Cafe is the dream of a group of WW2 Veterans and War Widows from Brighton, who understand the value of connection and camaraderie.

Whilst many have since passed, the project lives on, in honor of them. In honor of all Veterans, who have given, and continue to give so much, so that we may enjoy the freedom we do today.

The cafe provides more than just coffee and cake. It’s main product is wellbeing!

Evidence based activities for wellbeing:

  • Physical Activity- Grab a yoga mat, or join an exercise group when they’re running.

  • Social Connection- With community elders, or families with young kids.

  • Music- Group Drumming & live interactive music.

  • Be Creative- Make a memorial plaque for a Veteran you knew, Plant remembrance poppies.

  • Gratitude- Listen to the stories of a Veteran, either in person, or via a zoom chat.

  • Volunteer- Fun and flexible avenues for people of all ages and capabilities to help out.

  • Other ideas?- Please share. Your suggestions are of great importance.

A Currency of Kindness

There are no set charges for any food, beverages or programs offered at the ANZAC Legacy Cafe.

Volunteers, patrons and guests of honor all work together to support the experience.

Help Yourself, Then Pay it Forward!

FINDING WAYS TO CONNECT

A virtual visit enables a connection between Glenn and Victor, whilst COVID restrictions limited Victor’s ability to get out and about.

A virtual visit enables a connection between Glenn and Victor, whilst COVID restrictions limited Victor’s ability to get out and about.

Due to various reasons, a global pandemic being one, many Veteran/ War Widow elders have been unable to safely attend the cafe in person of late.

We have been working to connect with these guests of honor through virtual visiting channels, enabling the cafe to achieve its primary outcome. The sharing of the special legacy held by Veterans, with a grateful community.

TECHNOLOGICAL HELP REQUIRED - If you have skills with technology, please consider volunteering them to support the setting up and facilitation of virtual visiting opportunities.
